Why does legolas have blue eyes in the hobbit
Gallifreyan - nope, you're right. I got my "Sylvan" and "Sindarin" mixed up. Could you please clarify what is different about the eyes? I don't see any difference actually. If you zoom in, you would see the iris are of different color and the pupil is more constricted in The Hobbit series. Show 1 more comment. Active Oldest Votes. It's a technical issue sort of Original Source - Quora Wikipdia Due to technical mishaps involving Bloom's contact lenses, in the films Legolas' eye colour sometimes changes between brown, purple, and blue.
Reddit Orlando hated the contacts he wore in the Rings trilogy because they stung his eyes after a long time of shooting the film. Improve this answer. I have read it in these places but I was wondering if Peter Jackson has himself mentioned it in any DVD commentary or in any interviews. That's mentioned in some of the quotes. In the last quote, I'm pretty sure the word should be "desaturate", not "saturate".
The more intense the color, the more saturated it is. Gil-Galad in love. In FOTR they are blue too. But from distance they seem to be brown. I've noticed that with Melian and that is why we watched carefully some scenes with him. I used zoom of my dvd to see that Legolas eyes are actually blue. Not as blue as in TT but blue. Thanks Gil-Galad.
By the way who is Melian? Originally posted by L. Greenleaf Thanks Gil-Galad. Click to expand They change colors. If not they are blue. But does it even care? Maybe they change colors when he senses danger? What do you think? Just a simple mistake, I'm sure. I noticed that his eyes were different too. Orlando's eyes ARE brown,l ike you said,I asgalen. My mom and I think that they the movie poeple used "color contacs".
Blue ones of course. My mom wears contacs too. She has greyish blue eyes when shes not wearing them, but when she does wear them, her eyes are almost a bright blue. So I think that prob what they did is had him wear blue colored contacs.
T here was this thing here in Tx, where convience stores were selling them to just anybody, so they could change their eye color, but then they would hurt people eyes, so they don't have them any more.
I don't think so anyway But I'm sure they had them speicaly made so they wouldn't hurt his eyes. Last edited: Feb 5, Elf Goddess Laurienda. Orlando had quite a famous accident on The Two Towers where he fell off his horse during an action scene and cracked several ribs. He claims that he's broken almost every major bone in his body in various incidents, including skiing, a motorcycle crash, and falling off a roof.
Even movies as well made as The Lord of the Rings Trilogy make mistakes now and again. This may be surprising to some fans since Jackson paid such an amazing attention to detail, but Legolas' eyes actually change color numerous times throughout the three movies.
In some instances, you can see Orlando Bloom's naturally dark brown eyes in the shot, versus the baby blue eye-contacts he wore for other shots.
The problem was that Orlando really didn't like wearing the blue contacts in the original trilogy. The contacts caused him pain and irritation, and would fall out or not look right on camera.
When Orlando reappeared in the final two Hobbit movies, he didn't have to wear any contacts. Instead, his eye-color was changed in post. However, this led to his eyes appearing unnaturally blue, distracting, and kind of creepy. Now that Legolas is basically a staple of pop culture, everyone and their dog thinks of him as a tall, slender, smoldering, blond man. But this may not have actually been the intention of Tolkien when he created the character. Tolkien does describe the varying looks and hair colors of each Elven denomination quite well, but he never really talks about Legolas' look even though he spends some time with him.
Peter Jackson and Tolkien experts usually depict Legolas as a blond due to the fact that his father, Thranduil, was described by Tolkien as possessing this hair color.
But this isn't necessarily accurate by any means, since Legolas comes from two different types of Elves, each having either blond or brown hair.
There are many different kinds of Elves. In fact, they are essentially different races of Elves who each have their own dialect. Though there are strong similarities between both the cultures and the languages they speak, there are differences as well. For instance, the Valinorian Elves were often seen as the wisest of the Elves and didn't always bear the same trademark blonde, silver, or gray hair of the other Elven races. These Elves that were often seen as less wise, but highly dangerous.
Due to the fact that Legolas' father, Thranduil, came from Doriath, an area populated by the elegant Sindarin Elves, and Legolas' unknown mother probably came from the Silvan culture, Legolas more than likely belongs to both of these Elven groups.
Though many fantasy writers such as George R. Martin and Tolkien tend to write a great deal of backstory for minor characters as well as family trees, a major chunk of Legolas' history is missing.
At no point in any of Tolkien's work is there a reference to the identity of Legolas' mother. It's highly possible that she was a Silvan Elf, native to the Mirkwood region, where Thranduil and his small band of Sindarin Elves ruled. Much else about her-- including her name-- is unknown. Peter Jackson and his writers, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, added some backstory about Legolas' mother that added to the rift in his relationship with his father, Thranduil.
They explain that she passed away earlier and Legolas was still grieving her loss. If Legolas were a Human, he would almost certainly "lift. Tolkiens works describe the draw weight of the bow that Galadriel gives to Legolas as pounds. Legolas is able to draw his arrows and launch them at his enemies with this bow repeatedly without appearing to tire.
This means that he likely has a lifting capacity of at least pounds. One of the reasons he's able to bend gravity so well is that he's able to push his entire body up with the proper leverage.
I had acctually looked forward to looking into his eyes, after Pippin's description of how they looked in the book. Elda has made posts and is an Elf from Lothlorien and is not online. Musicimprovedme has made posts and is a Hobbit from Hobbiton and is not online. Gosh, we do take in every detail don't we? I wear contacts myself. I personally don't have trouble with mine popping out but I wear rigid gas permeable lenses, not your traditional soft floppy contact lenses.
I have heard they do that, maybe the technology has come further along by now that they don't. I would certainly hope that if contacts are touted as perfect for an active lifestyle, etc, they don't just fall out of your eye for something such as an actor's battle scene.
What I have noticed with my lenses is that my eyes are MUCH more sensitive both to light and any speck of anything that gets in my eye It really hurts to get stuff in your eyes with them in, a LOT worse than when your eyes are "nude".
So by this discussion, I'm assuming that Orlando Bloom either wears colored contacts in real life or needed them as costuming to change his eye color to Legolas'. As long as we are talking about eye color, I wonder if anyone noticed Gollum's eyes in the movie. I hadn't gotten to the part where Tolkien says that Gollum's and Smeagol's eyes change from blue to green, not sure who has which.
At any rate, I didn't know about it either time that I saw the movie so I wasn't watching for it. Did anyone notice if Gollum's eyes change when he switches to Smeagol?
